Priorities for 2026-2030
The priorities listed here reflect what Ward 3 neighbours have shared with Nrinder at the doorstep, during community meetings, townhalls, and through her work as a Councillor. They also reflect some items that are mult-year or multi-phase in nature, and hence still on the list to deliver.
Infrastructure, Maintenance
& Quality Assurance
This is to ensure public funds are spent responsibly and deliver a return on investment:
- Continue responsible investments in Ward 3 municipal assets rated in “poor condition”, including: roads, parks, pools, water systems and other facilities.
- Require capital projects be measured “on time/on budget” with public reporting.
- Establish a “one-strike and you’re out” policy for performance management of vendors kept on roster.
- Audit all capital projects over $500,000 for system and contingency improvements.
- Annual user feedback to shape service improvements in recreation registration process, updated dog park policy, litter and public waste receptacles, property standards and unassumed alleyways.
Housing Outcomes
This is continue delivering real solutions to the housing crisis while ensuring the whole of Hamilton is part of the solutions we need:
- Ensure the 305 affordable and supportive housing projects that received municipal contributions are delivered by 2028 and occupied, helping to reduce the housing waitlists.
- Support the redevelopment of 77 Gage Ave into a new Indigenous friendship and cultural hub with modular housing addition, to be complete by 2030.
- Establish a realistic annual new unit count target for City Housing Hamilton’s portfolio development for new housing units along the affordable housing spectrum.
- Raise the Vacant Unit Tax rate by 1% every two years to encourage more empty homes are repaired and occupied, while collecting fees to build more.
- Ensure more shelter beds and services are established outside the lower city to help meet needs where people are.
Community Safety & Wellbeing
These priorities will help us move from managing complex issues to addressing them head on:
- Reintroduce an Interim Control Bylaw on AI Data Centres and ensure Hamilton’s Framework on the AI Data Centre Development is robust in: public consultation, water, noise, power, nature and wildlife protections requirements.
- Advocate for provincial air quality and emission standards for industry be set to global best.
- Establish a Community Crisis Response Program, modeled after the award-winning one in Toronto, that deploys health-based outreach workers to support residents in need of medical or health supports reducing the costly reliance on police services for activity that is not criminal or violent in nature.
Priority Projects for Completion
I will ensure these multi-year projects that have already been initiated are completed in the 2026-2030 Term of Council:
- Brightside Park, Powell Park, Bishop’s Park all constructed, reconstructed, or enhanced as planned according to community input. Establish an enhancement plan for North Central Park with a robust community input/engagement process.
- Successful implementation of Main St Two-way conversion with robust communication and impact mitigation plans for residents and businesses.
- Ensure LRT works are implemented with robust communication and impact mitigation plans for residents and businesses.
- Implement the next phase of Ward 3 Complete Streets recommendations for neighbourhood roads and school zones.
